The Metrology Department, Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards
At the 50th CIML Meeting in Arcachon, France, Mr. Mason also presented Mr. Anselm Gittens with the Seventh OIML Award for excellent achievements in legal metrology in developing countries.
The Metrology Department of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) has made steady and sustained progress in the area of legal metrology over the last 22 years.
Their contribution to legal metrology at the national and regional (Caribbean) levels is significant considering that Saint Lucia is a small island developing state with an area of only 616 km2 and a population of only around 170 000. Only five persons from this small population work in their Metrology Department.
Although Saint Lucia is not currently a member of the OIML, the Head of their Metrology Department, Anselm Gittens, is well known to the OIML, having interacted with several Member States and the BIML over a number of years on various subjects.
